The Newmark May Theatre Organization Education | Mentorship | Performance
The Newmark May Theatre Organization will provide an after school program that introduces High School Students to all componants of putting on a live theatrical presentation, starting with the selection of the play, continuing with casting, auditions, the technical production (set design, lighting, costumes and makeup), rehearsals and culminating in the actual performance in front of an audience. We will provide mentors to work with the High School faculty and students in each aspect of the production. Using mentors who can share their professional experience in the theatre is valuable because, among other things, it allows the student to get access to the actual methods used in live productions and permits them a chance to build a network of contacts in the New York City theatre community.
To further enhance the students' learning experience, we will take part in the "Talk Back" program. This is an existing Broadway theatre program where a group not only sees a show but after the show the students are given the opportunity to meet and participate in a question and answer session with the cast members.
As the organization grows, we will offer stipends to the students who complete the program, graduate High School and return as mentors so other children can experience the program. We will utilize the students, the parents, the school faculty) and neighborhood stores and business to raise money to benefit the Students, the School, and the Organization.
